Grain size characterization in aluminum alloys
In this example, Clemex Vision system is applied to characterize the grain size of anodized aluminum using polarized light.
Figure 1. The microstructure of anodized aluminum is viewed at 50X magnification. Certain color operations are needed to eliminate the internal dark divisions of grain as well as to highlight the grain boundaries.

PURPOSE
Demonstrate the ability of the Clemex Vision image analysis system to discriminate all grains in the field of view, and perform grain size measurement. The methods and operations used are discussed in the report linked at the bottom of this page (click the Download PDF link below).
